Waltham has had a gasworks, a malt works and a major sports ground in its time, with cottages squeezed between them. The gasworks closed around 1980, and the former malt works and warehouses on Waltham Road were redeveloped into 88 two- and three-bedroom townhouses after the 2011 earthquakes. Lancaster Park is now a community park. About 2 km south-east of the city centre, the suburb is a working mix of residential streets and light and heavy industry, bounded by Moorhouse Avenue, Ferry Road, Ensors Road and the Heathcote River.

Who lives in Waltham, and what does that mean for carpets?

The population is younger and more mixed than much of Christchurch. The median age was 32.4 in Waltham and 32.3 in neighbouring Charleston at the 2018 census, and 31.9% of residents were born overseas. The residential population grew 10.9% between 2013 and 2018. That points to rentals, shared houses and quick turnover, plus families in the older cottages.

Cottages are typical of the suburb. Residents and the council tried in the early 1980s to name the western part Charleston to protect its residential character from industrial growth, and that effort was partly successful. Small cottages have small rooms, so carpet wears in a few places quickly, usually the hallway and the path from the front door to the kitchen. Newer townhouses have the opposite problem: lightly used carpet that needs a proper first clean. Next door, Sydenham and Linwood have a similar mix.

What we get called out for in Waltham

  • Townhouse move-ins. The Waltham Road townhouses and other newer builds often need a move-in clean before furniture goes in.
  • Rental changeovers. With a young population and many tenants, tenancy cleaning is one of the most requested jobs.
  • Industrial-edge dust. Houses near the rail line, Brougham Street and the light-industrial blocks collect fine grit, and a hot water extraction clean removes what vacuuming leaves behind.
  • Workshops and small businesses. Offices and trade units on the industrial side book commercial cleaning after hours.
  • Smells in shared houses. Cooking, smoke and pet odours get into carpet in busy houses, and odour elimination targets the source.

Landlords with several Waltham properties can ask for one quote across them, and we can book the jobs back to back to keep the cost down and the turnaround short.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you clean a Waltham townhouse before we move in?

Yes. We clean carpets and hard floors after the builders or previous tenants have left, usually on a day that suits your move. Quotes are free and based on the floor area and condition.

Do you handle end-of-tenancy carpet cleans in Waltham?

Yes. We clean carpets to the standard landlords and property managers expect, and can arrange a time around your move-out date. A written quote is available first so there are no surprises.

Does grit from nearby industry make carpets dirtier in Waltham?

It can. Fine dust and grit wear carpet fibres and darken traffic areas faster. Regular vacuuming helps, and a hot water extraction clean every year or two removes the ground-in soil that a vacuum cannot.

Available 24/7 for all your cleaning needs.
