Tuahiwi is a rural settlement of just over 1,000 people between Woodend and Rangiora, and it is the home of Ngāi Tūāhuriri Rūnanga, the Ngāi Tahu papatipu rūnanga based at Tuahiwi. The name means "beyond the mound", after the ridge that runs from Kaiapoi to Rangiora. Tuahiwi Marae stands here, and the settlement's history is bound up with Kaiapoi Pā, once the largest and most important Ngāi Tahu stronghold. We work in Tuahiwi as guests of a community with deep roots, and we treat every home and gathering place accordingly.
How do you clean carpet at a marae or community gathering place?
With care and by listening first. Marae and community buildings follow their own tikanga, such as removing shoes, and we follow the guidance of the people responsible for the space. If you manage a marae, hall or community building, tell us about any protocols, the areas involved and the timing, so we can plan around hui and events.
For the many homes in Tuahiwi, the approach is the same as elsewhere: clear information, a fixed quote and non-toxic products that are safe for children and pets.
Kaiapoi Pā was destroyed in 1832 and people began returning in the 1840s. Māori Reserve 873 was granted to Ngāi Tūāhuriri whānau in 1848, and in 2015 the District Plan was changed to allow more flexible development there. If a home or whare has particular requirements, we would rather hear them at the start than assume.
What we get called out for in Tuahiwi
- Cleaning before and after gatherings. Large events leave heavy foot traffic. A thorough hot water extraction clean resets the floors.
- Community buildings. Halls and meeting spaces are handled through commercial cleaning, planned around your calendar.
- Family homes. Busy households benefit from regular deep cleaning.
- Mattresses and bedding spaces. When whānau stay over, mattress cleaning helps refresh bedding areas.
- Water in the building. A leak or burst pipe needs fast help from flood restoration.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you clean at marae and community halls?
Yes. Tell us about any protocols, the rooms involved and your event dates, and we will plan around them and follow the guidance of the people responsible for the space.
Can you work around hui and events?
Yes. Give us as much notice as you can, and we will arrange a time that suits, including evenings or weekends where needed. Low-moisture cleaning is useful when floors must be ready quickly, for example before an event the same day.
Are your products safe for children and kaumātua?
Our products are non-toxic and safe for children and pets. If anyone has particular sensitivities, tell us when you book and we will choose the gentlest suitable method for the room.
